The purpose of this project is to revise the student competency profile and develop a curriculum resource guide for the “Nutrition and Wellness” high school-level semester course in the family and consumer sciences curriculum. This course meets the requirement for the Nutrition and Wellness core of the program curriculum. The existing competency profile and resource guide are being updated with new information regarding nutrition and wellness issues. The resource guide is being updated to include Process Skills for Family and Consumer Sciences, critical thinking strategies, and will be crosswalked to state and national standards relevant to Missouri teachers.
As a part of this project, an advisory committee comprised of Family and Consumer Sciences teachers, DESE staff, and others will review and revise the existing competency profile for Nutrition and Wellness. Leading this committee and developing the resource guide is Vikki Shahan, College of Human Environmental Sciences, University of Missouri-Columbia.
