The Missouri School Improvement Program standards, Perkins legislation, and sound curriculum development practices require that each secondary-level vocational education program or course have measurable learner objectives that are not only appropriate for the developmental level of the students, but also include activities and assessments that align with those objectives. The purpose of this project is to develop a graduate-level, web or ITV-based (and/or other alternative delivery, such as weekend format) course on assessment for Missouri vocational education teachers at the secondary level.
The course will assist them with the development of assessments aligned with their local curriculum as required by the Missouri School Improvement Program and provide instruction for secondary-level teachers in the utilization of the elements of external alignment such as the Missouri Show-Me Standards, the competencies for secondary-level vocational education programs, appropriate national standards as well as the elements of internal alignment. Course content will include “best practices” across career education areas, and will be appropriate for all career education instructors at the secondary and postsecondary levels. Outcomes of this course should also help address Core Indicator I as delineated in the 1998 Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act.
The Assessment Development course project is being lead by Dr. Bart Washer, Career and Technology Education Department, UCM.
